Leader of Akron dogfighting ring now faces state charges

AKRON, Ohio — The leader of an Akron dogfighting ring that drew spectators from across the country faces new dogfighting charges in Summit County court despite pleading guilty in federal court for the crime.

Alvin Banks, 56, already is serving a two-year prison sentence for organizing the large-scale dogfighting ring at his home in the 1100 block of Cordova Avenue.

Summit County prosecutors presented the case to a county grand jury after Banks’ federal court conviction.
